Bluespan's proprietary ionTechnology is a wireless, point-to-point link between a hand-held monitoring device-or Base Unit-and a tagged item. The technology enables users to locate and identify any tagged item by using the Base Unit to pinpoint the item's unique signal.

ionTechnology operates across a range of unlicensed frequencies and transmits at power levels much lower than cell phones. All ionTechnology products are designed to be in compliance with FCC standards.

Each tag is created with a unique identification number which, upon activation, is instantly transferred to the monitoring unit. Every few seconds, ionTechnology simultaneously changes the transmission frequency and corresponding information in the Base Unit, significantly reducing the chances that a third party can scan or monitor a tag. In addition, each communication between an individual tag and its Base Unit will be transmitted on a different frequency, making it possible for multiple Tags to be used in the same close environment without transmission interference.

Because it uses a point-to-point wireless communication system, ionTechnology does not rely on cell towers or satellites - so cloud cover or a building's roof will not prevent you from finding your loved ones. And because ionTechnology is a self-contained system and does not rely on third parties to operate you can use ionKids practically anywhere in the world and you will NEVER have monthly, annual or subscription fees.

Bluespan's patented ionTechnology consists of the following key features.

1.  ionTechnology is the first product to incorporate both an omni-directional (monitoring) and directional (finding) antenna into one device.  No other product has been found that can both monitor and find a "tag" without relying on a third party (such as a cell tower or GPS satellite).

2.  ionTechnology is the first product to incorporate features such as frequency hopping and spread spectrum technology (changing frequencies for communication and making those changes over a robust portion of the communication spectrum) for monitoring the location of people, property, pets and other assets.  Just as a cordless phone or garage opener changes frequencies and identification numbers to ensure you of a clearly and more secure connection between two devices, so do the ionKids Base Unit and Wristag change frequencies and identification numbers.

3.  ionTechnology incorporates the application of infrared sensors on the underside of the Wristag to alert the parent, in less than 5 seconds, if the Wristag is removed from the child in an unauthorized manner. This feature allowed Bluespan the ability to develop and comfortable Wristag for the child to wear while still ensuring to the parent that the Wristag was nearly tamper-proof.
